Personally, I usually find the best deals by using travel websites like Travelocity , Priceline , Hotels. They typically have the best inventory and you can often compare prices between multiple airlines or hotels. These companies make it very easy to book package deals, so you can book an airline ticket, hotel room, and rental car all in one place.
So be sure to shop around. Bonus: some of these companies offer discount plans or rewards for frequent customers. For example, Hotels. Using a travel rewards program can help you earn points and benefits such as free checked bags, priority boarding, free flights, free nights at a hotel, and other perks.
The #1 Most Trusted Community for New Military Discounts
These are even better when used in conjunction with a credit card rewards program. Some of the more popular travel credit cards are a joint offering between a credit card company and a specific airline or hotel chain. Many come with a sign-up bonus equal to a free flight or several nights stay at a hotel. Some even come with a free flight or free night stay as part of the annual renewal fee, which essentially cancels out your annual fee. Here are some lists of the current credit offers you may find helpful:. As with all credit cards, be sure to read the fine print before signing up for any deals, and be sure to pay your card in full each month to avoid any fees or interest.
If you are ever worried about not being able to complete your travel you should really consider a travel insurance policy. These companies are a great option and many offer military discounts. In my experience, booking the best travel deals requires a little legwork and a lot of patience. If you are traveling on military orders, always check with your unit before booking travel. They may have access to special offers or may have other requirements. If you are traveling on your own, then start with your itinerary, and determine whether or not you can work some of the military-specific travel options such as Space-A, Armed Forces Recreation Centers, or base lodging into your plans.
If you can, then you can usually save a substantial amount of money on your trip. Worst case scenario, you get the same deal everyone else gets. I was excited to see and read your articles when I was browsing the VA website. I was born and grew up in the Philippines currently serving on active duty in the Navy and will be retiring in less than a year.
I live in Washington state with my family. I was just curious where you from? Thanks and take care! Excellent article! This is very informative and provides useful information for anyone planning a trip or planning to fly in the near future. The VA and their disability status as opposed to military disability status have nothing to do with this situation.
The people who this matters to is those who are not medically retired and did not serve 20 years. I think I am eligible for discounted hopper passes at Disney World.. Does anyone know where you can get advance tickets from a military base or do you have to go to Downtown Disney to get the tickets?
Is there a limit on how many tickets can be purchased at the discounted rate and would I be able to get tickets for my daughters family, not living with me? There is a change coming January 1 , that makes it so any service connected disabled veteran is able to use the commissaries, exchanges and MWR. They say that more information will be coming later this year. Is it a huge stretch to hope that this will at least make it so all disabled service connected veterans can stay at Shades of Green anytime there is room, and that whatever discounts are available they would also be able to get them?
Shades of Green says they have not received guidance if they will participate in this at all or to what extent. My guess is they would not be eligible for Salute and Disney military rates since the last article I read stated that VA health cards would be used to gain access to the base and eligible facilities on base. Are we eligible for the Disney salute and the shades of green resort. Yes absolutely.
Because he is retired, the percentage does not matter. It only matters for those not retired. Your email address will not be published.
